DAY OF THE DEAD

Image
DAY OF THE DEAD SERIES inspired by visits to Puerto Vallarta Mexicans share a traditional holiday celebration at the end of October beginning of November to commemorate family and friends who have passed away. Gravesites at cemeteries are cleaned and decorated with magnolias before festivities take place around the gravesites. Food is offered to the spirits of departed ancestors. Sugar skulls and masks are often displayed, faces are painted and colorful costumes are worn.

I have been creating for as long as I can remember. There have been bouts of formal education mixed in with years of experimentation. Pottery, weaving, printmaking and sculpture have lured me away from painting over the years but, more recently, I have focused on themes in my paintings. 2004 SOLO EXHIBITION This SOLO exhibition in 2004 included portraits of family and friends.  The intention was to identify fellow humans and their activities  by their postures and clothing without seeing their faces.
